Q -Why do I need to maintain my prop file ?

As it says in the previous pages of this FAQ, the server prop file stores every prop it sees. This means any prop worn by anybody even once is stored in the server prop file. More importantly to you, it stores all the props associated with your prop rooms.

Even on a palace that is only moderately busy, the server prop file can get very large - very fast. The bigger this file gets, the more fragile it gets. Corruption of the prop file is common when the file gets really large - due to limitations in the palace software routines that handle modifying the file.

Currently, there is no way to repair a broken prop file. If the file becomes corrupted, it must be restored from a backup or replaced with an empty file.

So what can you do to prevent the file from getting huge ?

The server prop file must be flushed on a regular basis. Flushing refers to the process of sorting through the props in the server prop file and tossing out old props - props that have not been " seen " in a while. Details of the flushing process are given later in this FAQ.
