Q - How do I set up the vacation program ?.

The vacation progam lets you set up an auto-reply to your EMails while you are away and unable to answer your mail.

The UNIX vacation utility on the User Utility Page lets you set up the program, turn it on and turn it off - without having to do any programming. Of course if you're the UNIX command line type that actually enjoys typing complicated command strings - feel free to log onto the shell and do it the hard way :-)

A quick look at the form...

Only send replies every _______ days - this sets how often the replies are sent to each address. If you set this to 0 (zero), vacation will respond to every incoming message. If you get a lot of email, this could lead to a serious problem.

Reply to messages sent to these aliases - if you enter something here, the vacation program will respond only to messages sent to these addresses

From - this line is automatically filled out for you with your email address. You can enter something different if you want.

Subject - Enter what you want to appear as the subject of the message that vacation sends out

Message - Enter the message you want vacation to send out in the large message block

Initialize vacation - After you have the form filled out the way you want it, hit this button to put your settings into effect and turn on the vacation program. Remember to hit the button or nothing gets set up

Q - How do I turn off the vacation program ? - If you already have vacation running, select the vacation utility link and you will be offered a button to Disable Vacation.
